Our Documents: Civic Education Initiative
"Our Documents" is an initiative of National History Day and The National Archives and Records Administration in cooperation with the Corporation for National and Community Service and the USA Freedom Corps.
The initiative revolves around 100 of America’s milestone documents. These documents include public laws, Supreme Court decisions, inaugural speeches, treaties, constitutional amendments, and other national treasures that have shaped our country.
By visiting www.ourdocuments.gov, students are able to view the documents in their original form. It is our hope that students, teachers, parents, and members of the general public read these documents, reflect on them, and discuss their importance.
The Web site and publications include everything students, educators, and the public need to participate in the "Our Documents" initiative such as:
- A list of the 100 documents and their description.
- Three featured documents in their original form (to be changed every week).
- Online vote for the 10 most significant.
- Educator Sourcebook for in-class lesson plans.
National History Day in Alabama is pleased to be a partner with the "Our Documents" Initiative. Students are encouraged to share their knowledge discovered in understanding these documents by taking part in the National History Day Program.
