Kathy Mitchell, Senior Director of Auxiliary Services, has been appointed to serve as Interim Vice Chancellor for Financial Affairs. She began her appointment on Feb. 1.
"Kathy brings a wealth of financial and institutional knowledge and experience to this position, and I look forward to working with her as we continue to move forward as a university during our search for a permanent vice chancellor," said Chancellor John G. Veres III.
Mitchell said she is excited about this opportunity to continue to serve the university where she has been an employee (and a student) for more than 30 years.
"I know there is a great staff in place, and I will look to them to continue to provide great services in Financial Affairs, " Mitchell said. "I look forward to working with them and all faculty and staff to make sure the transition is a smooth one."
Mitchell earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Accounting) and her Master of Business Administration from Auburn Montgomery in 1979 and 1980, respectively. She also completed some postgraduate work at the University of Alabama. In 1981, she began working at AUM as Purchasing Manager. She served the Department of Information Systems and Decision Science as an Assistant Professor, advisor and staff member, and she has also worked in the Office of Institutional Effectiveness. In 2008, she was named Senior Director of Auxiliary Services.
As Interim Vice Chancellor for Financial Affairs, Mitchell will oversee campus financial and budget operations, Auxiliary Services, Public Safety, Facilities, Procurement and Payment Services, the Cashier Office, and Contracts and Grants.
