Kinesiology Degree Paths

Physical Education

The Kinesiology Department offers degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate level. The undergraduate Physical Education teacher certification program prepares candidates to teach physical education in a P-12 school setting. Candidates must meet Auburn University at Montgomery and Alabama Department of Education teacher certification requirements. Prior to graduation, candidates must make a passing score on the PRAXIS II Exam as well as the AUM Kinesiology Department Fitness Assessment, which includes health-related fitness components and a swimming component. In order for candidates to receive teacher certification in the state of Alabama, they must receive a score of 37 or better on edTPA. Masters and Education Specialist Degree Programs are available also with classes offered both online as well as face to face.

Exercise Science

The Exercise Science program is a dynamic and exciting program preparing students for careers in human performance, training and conditioning, corporate fitness and wellness. Clinical and preventive areas of preparation include cardiac rehabilitation, pre-physical therapy, and health promotion. Graduates can also enhance their careers and knowledge in pursuing advanced studies in rehabilitation and physical therapy, exercise physiology, and research in exercise physiology. AUM’s Exercise Science major is also an educationally recognized program by the National Strength and Conditioning Association for its outstanding program leading to careers in athletic strength and conditioning.

Sport Management

The Sport Management program at Auburn University at Montgomery provides a unique opportunity for individuals who want to work in a sport setting at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Coursework is designed to meet the needs of each student and prepare them to work in both school and non-school settings. Courses are designed to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Both theory and practical application is utilized. Degree programs at the graduate level are offered in certification as well as non-certification tracks, so students can select which program best fits their needs based on their post-graduation interests. Possible career paths for Sport Management majors include working for professional sports teams, college sports teams, retail sports, nonprofit sport entities, and youth leagues.

Kinesiology Major Club

Kinesiology Majors Club is an organization for students majoring in any program within the Department  of Kinesiology.  The mail focus of the club is to promote heath, physical activity, and sport on campus and in the community at large.  The club also seeks to provide networking opportunities for students with professionals working in the different program areas.  All students are automatically member of the club just by being a major in the department.  Students interested in being active members should reach out to faculty within the department for more information.
