The Ida Belle Young Committee requests proposals for “Special Projects.” Supported by the Ida Belle Young endowment, these projects should enhance the academic quality and reputation of AUM. You may submit full proposals with details that are several pages in length or you may submit ideas for smaller initiatives summarized in a few paragraphs. Any idea or proposal should address its potential for moving AUM forward. Proposals from previous years may be resubmitted. All proposals should lay out the following in a 1-2 page cover sheet:
- The project's title;
- A (brief) statement of the project's expected impact;
- A (brief) explanation of how that impact will be ascertained;
- A (brief) explanation of the project's alignment with AUM's larger goals;
- The total sum requested from the Ida Belle Young endowment. Further details regarding your budget may be left to the body of the proposal. FYI, proposals for research and service projects that have included salary supplements for faculty have not been successful in the past.
The amount to be allocated this year for special projects will be $80,000. Other funds from the Ida Belle Young endowment will support scholarships, a graduate assistantship, faculty scholarship, and the Ida Belle Young professorships. After reviewing all proposals, the Ida Belle Young Committee will make recommendations to the Provost.
After the period of the award, the grantee will submit a report to the Ida Belle Young Committee regarding the results of the Special Project.
The Committee is hoping to generate a wide range of thoughtful and creative proposals about how to allocate these funds. Please submit your proposals/ideas to the Committee electronically by March 4, 2013. You should use the address IdaBYoungCommittee@aum.edu. Please be sure to put “Ida B. Young Special Project Proposal” in the subject line. The Committee hopes to complete its recommendations to the Provost by March 18, 2013.
