Traditional Master of Education
The School of Education prepares professional educators who are competent, committed and reflective and is committed to providing challenging opportunities for a diverse learning community in a nurturing environment.
Master of Education (M.Ed.)
To earn your Master of Education degree and/or Class A certification, you will complete a planned program of graduate work within an approved area and must maintain a 3.0 GPA. If you are pursuing the Instructional Leadership certification, you must maintain a 3.25 GPA.
Your specific courses are determined by the School of Education advisor based on your needs and goals as well as departmental requirements.
A Level Certificate
We offer the traditional master's degree in the following areas:
Art Education | extends you professional knowledge with specific skills for teaching in grades P-12. |
Counselor Education | provides skills and theories for certified teachers to serve as counsels in a school situation (grades P-12) and for non-certified individuals who plan to work in counseling and development in agency, higher education or nontraditional settings. |
Early Childhood | extends your professional knowledge for teaching children from preschool through third grade. |
Elementary Education | extends your professional knowledge for teaching children from kindergarten through sixth grade. |
| Exercise Science | provides extended knowledge for instructors and administrators in non-school settings. The program is uniquely designed to accommodate the interests, needs and background of each individual and is a not a certification area. |
| Instructional Leadership | prepares certified teachers to be instructional leaders and administrators in school settings grades preschool through 12. |
Instructional Technology
| a non-certified degree program that is taught online for teachers, staff and administrators who wish to increase their understanding of the role of technology and its appropriate use in the support of student learning. This degree option is also appropriate for industry educators (those not in the K12 environment) who wish to study instructional design and learn how technology can be used in learning and teaching. |
| Physical Education | extends professional knowledge of physical education teachers in grades preschool through 12. |
| Reading Specialist | prepares certified teachers in the necessary skills and strategies to serve as a reading specialist in grades preschool through 12. |
| Secondary Education | extends professional knowledge of teachers in grades 6-12 in biology, chemistry, English language arts, general science, general social science, history or mathematics. |
| Special Education | extends knowledge of the specific skills needed for teaching children, adolescents and young adults who have specific disabilities. Programs are: Early Childhood Special Education (serves children form birth to 8 years), Collaborative Teacher K-6; and Collaborative Teacher Grades 6-12. |
