Alumni awards six graduate students $1,000 merit scholarships
The Auburn Montgomery Alumni Association recently awarded its annual Graduate Study Merit Scholarships to six outstanding AUM students.
The $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Dorothy Barton, Kamila Dadakhodjaeva, Irisa Kennedy, Hyeon Kim, Charles Moody and Gina Rae Smith.
Barton is a graduate student in Public Administration and is employed full-time in the office of Gov. Bob Riley. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Communication from Auburn University in August 2007.
Dadakhodjaeva, an AUM tennis player and a native of Uzbekistan, is a graduate student in Clinical Psychology. She received her bachelor’s degree from AUM in May 2008.
Kennedy, a former AUM women’s soccer player and a native of Warner Robins, Ga., is working on her Master of Business Administration and is employed full-time at Maxwell Air Force Base. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from AUM in 2006.
Kim, a native of Japan, is seeking his master’s degree in Exercise Science. He received his bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Troy University in May 2008.
Moody is enrolled in Auburn Montgomery’s Master of Liberal Arts program and is employed full-time by Montgomery Marketing Inc. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Humanities and Social Sciences from AUM in 2004.
Employed as public affairs director for the Alabama Department of Finance, Smith is seeking her master’s in Public Administration. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Communication from the University of Alabama in 2003.
Auburn Montgomery Alumni Association Graduate Study Merit Scholarships are awarded annually to deserving graduate students at AUM. The scholarships are for $500 each for fall and spring semesters. Recipients must maintain a graduate GPA of 3.4 or higher, enroll in and complete nine hours each semester and be continuously enrolled for each semester covered by the award.
Alumni Professorship
The Alumni Association sponsors an alumni professorship to recognize outstanding AUM faculty. To be eligible for this honor, faculty must have ten or more years of full-time service at AUM. The person appointed Alumni Professor serves a three-year, non-renewable term with an annual salary supplement of $2,500.
Nominations may be made by AUM faculty, staff, alumni, and friends. Letters no more than two pages in length should emphasize teaching excellence as well as a strong record of publication and research. A vita may be attached, if available.
The winner of this award is chosen by a seven-member selection committee which consists of three members of the AUM Alumni Association board of directors appointed by the president of the Association; two full-time faculty appointed by the president of the AUM Faculty Council; a dean appointed by the vice chancellor for academic affairs; and a department head appointed by the president of the AUM Department Heads Council. This group is convened by the chairperson of the Alumni Association awards committee.
