Mathematics
The Auburn Montgomery Department of Mathematics offer a degree in mathematics with four options to choose from; traditional mathematics, mathematics with an emphasis in computer science, mathematics Education, and mathematical economics. In addition there is a two-year pre-engineering program. The Mathematics programs at Auburn Montgomery will prepare you for a career out of college or for entering graduate school.
Students wishing to major in mathematics may choose one of four options:
Traditional Mathematics Major (MH) - The traditional mathematics option is ideally suited to students who intend to complete graduate studies in mathematics or related fields. Many AUM graduates who majored in mathematics have successfully completed graduate degrees in mathematics, statistics, and related fields at schools across the state and nation. This option is also well suited for students who simultaneously complete professional requirements for entrance into medical school or for careers in actuarial science. 8 hours of approved science electives chosen from BIOL, CHEM or PHYS
9 hours (a minor) of approved electives in one subject outside mathematics at the 2000-level or above
Mathematics Education Option (MHSE) - The mathematics education option is a joint program provided by the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Foundations, Secondary and Physical Education. This option is available for students wanting to teach mathematics in the secondary schools. This program leads to a “highly qualified” teaching certificate in Alabama for grades 6 to 12. Students in this option will be assigned academic advisors in both departments. Students are expected to satisfy School of Education requirements concerning admission to professional education and professional internship along with graduation requirements expected of students in both departments. Mathematical Sciences with an Emphasis in Computer Science (MHC)- The program in mathematical sciences with emphasis on computer science is an ideal choice for students who intend to seek employment in today’s competitive job market. Many AUM graduates who majored in the mathematical sciences have had high rates of success in securing employment with leading firms across the state and nation. These graduates enter the job market immediately following graduation and pursue successful careers in engineering, operations research, computer science, and countless other fields related to the physical, computer, and social sciences. Students pursuing the option in mathematical sciences with an emphasis in computer sciences must complete the following requirements in addition to the core courses:

Mathematical Economics (MHE) - The mathematical economics option is designed for students who are either interested in doing analytical and quantitative work in business or government or in graduate work in applied mathematics, especially in mathematical economics and finance. Students pursuing the mathematical economics option must complete the following requirements in addition to the core courses:
