MONTGOMERY—Lorna Heaton’s goal in the 103rd minute gave the number one team in the NAIA, Lindsey Wilson, a 1-0 double overtime win over Auburn University at Montgomery. The game was billed as one of the top games in the nation for the week with Lindsey Wilson being the top ranked team in the nation, and AUM ranked 16th.
The game was a defensive struggle throughout the entire match until Saeda Sueki was able to spot Heaton running down the right hand side of the field unmarked. Heaton was able to collect the pass and drive a shot past AUM goal keeper Daisy Burnfield to end the match.
Carrie Revlett picked up the shutout win for Lindsey Wilson. She only had two saves, but none was bigger than the one she made with only a few minutes left in regulation when she left her feet to corral a shot off the foot of AUM leading scorer Amber Elam.
Lindsey finished the match with 14 shots and AUM had nine. Burnfield finished the match with eight saves in goal for AUM as Lindsey Wilson had nine shots on goal and AUM two.
Lindsey Wilson moves to 14-2-1 overall and the Lady Senators finish the regular season with a 12-4-1 record. AUM will begin conference tournament action later in the week.
