AUM Soccer Players Receive Weekly Honor

MONTGOMERY—The Southern States Athletic Conference has released the weekly players of the week, and players from Auburn University at Montgomery received three of those honors.
Junior Daisy Burnfield was named the women’s soccer defensive player of the week. The Longstock, England native recording eight saves in a double-overtime loss to Lindsey Wilson, the top ranked team in the NAIA. She also helped the team secure a team shutout in the Lady Senators win over Thomas University. On the season, Burnfield has only allowed 14 goals and has 67 saves and a goals against average of 0.87. It is the third time this season, and the second consecutive week Burnfield has received the award.
Amber Elam, Valdosta, Ga., has received the offensive player of the week. She scored two goals this past week to push her season total to 15. She had four shots on goal against Lindsey Wilson College, with two of those being on goal. She has 37 points this season and has moved into second place on the all-time leading scoring list at AUM with 140 points. It is the third time this season Elam has received the award.
Sveinn Jonsson from the men’s team scored two goals in leading the Senators to a 6-0 win over Thomas University and was named the SSAC men's offensive player of the week. The senior from Akureyri, Iceland has fought back from an early season injury that forced him to miss seven matches. He now has three goals on the season.
