MONTGOMERY—Sveinn Jonsson’s goal with five minutes left in the match gave 16th ranked Auburn University at Montgomery a hard-fought 2-1 win over Faulkner University in men’s soccer action.
Faulkner took a 1-0 lead into halftime when Wilfred Mitchell chipped a ball over AUM goalkeeper Kile Kennedy, which then ricochet off the post into the goal with only 30 seconds left in the first half.
The second half was totally dominated by the Senators as AUM held onto the ball and outshot the hosts 13-3. AUM scored two goals early in the half, but both were waived off due to offsides calls.
