The warhawk mascot and his name were revealed on Thursday.
On Thursday, Feb. 2, AUM's costumed warhawk mascot and his name were revealed for the first time to a crowd of cheering AUM students, staff, and faculty in the Physical Education Complex. "Curtiss," the mascot's name, was chosen from over 200 submissions from the AUM community. It refers to the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk fighter planes that were flown out of Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base in early World War II.
For his grand entrance, Curtiss danced "The Wobble" with AUM's cheerleading squad and gave out high-fives and t-shirts. Look for Curtiss at the next home basketball game. If you missed the debut of the warhawk, check out the video.
Thank you to all those who made the event possible, including AUM Athletics, the AUM Police Department, AUM Housing and Residence Life, AUM Student Involvement and Leadership Programs, the Campus Activities Board, Joel Hughes, Megan Hughes, Amanda Brasington, Bob Bostic, Jay Bradford, Jenna Catherine, Lauren Holena, Jeff Elwell, Darius Pettway, Buffy Lockette, Frank Miles, and the Department of Communication and Dramatic Arts.
