Peter Zachar has a Ph.D. in Psychology from Southern Illinois University and is an Ida Belle Young Research Professor. He serves on the editorial boards of Philosophy, Psychiatry and Psychology; Journal of Personality Disorders; and Dialogues in Philosophy, Mental Health and Neurosciences. He is the co-editor of John Benjamin’s Consciousness and Emotion Book Series and an Associate Editor for Emotion Review.
Zachar is the author of over 90 publications, including Psychological Concepts and Biological Psychiatry: A Philosophical Analysis (John Benjamins, 2000), A Metaphysics of Psychopathology (MIT Press, 2014) and the co-editor of Categorical Versus Dimensional Models of Affect (John Benjamins, 2012), Fact and Value in Emotion (John Benjamins, 2008) and Alternative Perspectives on Psychiatric Validation (Oxford University Press, 2014). Under General Editors Robin Cautin and Scott Lilienfeld, he is a section editor (historical and philosophical) for The Encyclopedia of Clinical Psychology (Wiley, forthcoming).
He has been invited to speak at Oxford University, The University of Copenhagen, and Humboldt University of Berlin. Zachar was the chair of the psychology department for eight years, is currently the Past-president of the AUM Faculty Senate, and the Vice-president of the Association for the Advancement of Philosophy and Psychiatry.
