CGOV helps community organization improve home in Montgomery
Members of the professional and administrative staff from the Center for Government and Public Affairs volunteered several hours on June 8 to work with the Montgomery ministry House-to-House to insulate a two-story home on Montgomery’s west side. Center staffers who pitched in included Senior Director Matthew Duke, Bob Ashurst, LeeAnna Bonner, Jeff Blancett (and wife, daughter, and two teens from St. James High School), Sarah Jones, Lindsay Mann and her husband, Suman Majumdar, and Alan Reid. House-to-House is a Christian mentoring ministry in an under-resourced neighborhood on the west side of Montgomery. House-to-House purchases and renovates abandoned homes in an effort to provide better housing for neighborhood residents. They are able to do this with the help of hundreds of volunteers and several qualified investors. To qualify for home ownership, families are required to go through mentorship and training in household budgeting, parenting and Christian discipleship.
