Message from the Chief

The Auburn University at Montgomery Police Department welcomes you to our Web site. Here you can learn about our services, pick up some crime prevention tips and find ways you can help foster and maintain an environment that supports everyone’s wellbeing. We are committed to partnering together with you to create a safe place to live, work and study. As a law enforcement agency with sworn and civilian employees, we are here 24 hours a day 7 days a week to serve the AUM campus. By collaborating with you and all our other partners across the campus and across the region, we address quality of life issues along with criminal activity. To that end, the AUM Police Department is committed to serving you.

About Chief Mitchell
Brenda M. Mitchell became Director of Police Operations on August 1, 2013.  

Director Mitchell has received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Alabama State University in 1985 and a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Auburn University Montgomery in 2008.



Prior to being name the Director of Police Operations Of Auburn University Montgomery, Chief Mitchell was committed in her service to the City of Montgomery for twenty five years as the Director of the Montgomery Emergency Management Agency for the City/County, the Chief of Staff for the Montgomery Police Department, Patrol Division Commander, Detective Division Commander, Training and Recruiting Division Commander and the Juvenile Division Commander. Director Mitchell also served and managed in all of the Divisions within the Montgomery Police Department except Traffic and Special Operations.

Director Mitchell brings to her position, a mass amount of certifications in Emergency Management and Police Operations. She is a member of the National Police Chiefs Association and has received Professional Training from the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association, Advanced Leadership Management at Maxwell AFB, Basic Leadership Management at Gunter AFB, Southeastern Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar and the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission. 

Director Mitchell’s involvement in the community includes United Way, Family Sunshine Center, Sanyo, Pre-Trial Diversion Committee, Child Protect and the Department of Human Resources.

She is married to Kenneth Mitchell and has one daughter, Kendra Mitchell and is involved in her Church, St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church of Shorter, Alabama
