Veteran Services

As a veteran, you are entitled to certain benefits and are eligible to participate in certain programs. The Veteran Services Office assists:

  • Veterans
  • Reservists
  • Guardsmen
  • Dependents of disabled or deceased veterans

While the Veteran Services Office at AUM does not determine eligibility for assistance, we do ensure that proper paperwork is completed, certified and filed with the VA so that payment of benefits can begin. If you require additional information, contact the Auburn Montgomery Veteran Services office at 334-244-3288.

Academic Plan of Study Check-sheet

All students receiving VA benefits are required to provide the Veteran Services Office with this form. Your academic advisor will provide this form and work with you in developing your plan. Your Plan of Study Checksheet must:

  • list all courses required for your degree
  • indicate which courses are already satisfied, either by prior college credit or previous course work completed at AUM
  • be signed by your dean or advisor
  • Once you have completed all necessary forms, it takes 6-8 weeks for the Veterans Administration's Regional Office (VARO) to finish processing your claim.

Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy for VA Benefit Recipients

All VA benefit recipients are required to make satisfactory academic progress by maintaining a minimum overall 2.0 GPA on hours attempted at AUM.  This measure generally becomes effective when the student has attempted 24 hours at AUM.  Students failing to maintain the required GPA will be subject to having their VA benefits terminated.

Registration Cancellation Policy

The AUM Registration Cancellation Policy requires that students pay tuition and fees by the Registration Cancellation Deadline. Re-registration will be permitted only if payments or payment arrangements are made at the time of registration. Students awarded financial aid (federal and state aid, scholarships, third party tuition payment, military assistance, PACT, etc.) for the semester at issue will not be subject to cancellation for that portion of fees covered by financial aid. However, veteran benefits, other than Chapter 31 VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Post 9/11 Chapter 33, are not considered financial aid for this payment policy, so veterans are encouraged to make payments or payment arrangements to prevent course cancellation.
