Mardi Gras King and Queen announced at celebration

by User Not Found | Mar 03, 2014

Student Involvement and Leadership Programs hosted a Mardi Gras celebration on March 3, a day before “Fat Tuesday,” for the entire campus. Taylor Center rooms 221-223 were transformed into the Big Easy, with shades of purple, green and gold decorating the tables and doorways and a beautiful mural of Bourbon Street stretching across one side of the room. Students, faculty and staff gathered to let the good times roll – donning colorful beads and elaborate masks while dining on red beans and rice, corn bread, king cake, and mocktails.

Students Deirvin Davis and Jade Hawkins were crowned Mardi Gras King and Queen. Davis is a business management freshman from Montgomery while sociology major Hawkins calls Mobile home (and, therefore, knows a thing or two about Mardi Gras). Davis and Hawkins won their crowns by raising the most funds for AUM’s Nonprofit Leadership Alliance, which will be used to support outreach programs for underserved children in the local community.
