Intensive English Program

This program provides an opportunity for the students who live abroad to come to Auburn University at Montgomery to improve their English language proficiency. The program is also open to our local residents.

Intensive English Program Class Schedule 

Proficiency Levels

Open to individuals 16 years of age and older, Auburn Montgomery's ESL Program ensures that each student begins at the proper level and reaches their goal of fully learning the English language.

All ESL students first take a placement test to help us determine their current skill level and identify the coursework they need. Courses are taught at five proficiency levels: Beginning, Low Intermediate, Intermediate, High Intermediate, and Advanced. Once your proficiency is determined, an advisor will meet you to help you select your courses. ESL classes normally have eight to 14 students and are held throughout the year in eight-week terms. You may begin at the start of any eight-week term.

Students are placed in different levels based on their scores on the English Placement Test and their speaking abilities.

Courses

Students study the following courses for a minimum of 22 hours per week in an eight-week period. Depending on their proficiency levels, students may be placed into different levels of these courses.

Applicants interested in applying to the Intensive English Program at Auburn University at Montgomery should send the items listed below to the address indicated on the application form. They can also fax the completed application form and other documents to (334) 244-3503 or scan the documents and email them to the program coordinator at galkanat@aum.edu.

1. The completed APPLICATION FORM. You must sign and date application form. 
   
   Since this form is in PDF (Portable Document Format) and may be viewed and accessed through Adobe Acrobat Reader, Adobe Reader must first be downloaded on to your computer. Please remember that you cannot save this form to your computer. You can complete the form, print it and fax or send it with your other documents.
   If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader, download it free by selecting the Adobe Reader image.

2. $25 Application fee: You can enter your credit card information on page 4 of the application form. This application fee is not refundable. (A student's application is not evaluated until the $25.00 is received.) 

3. Official bank letter that displays funds available for study

4. A copy of the page in your passport that contains your picture, your name, and date of birth
