Alabama Power Foundation gives gift to AUM to support Wellness Center

by Charise Alexander | Jan 09, 2013

The Alabama Power Foundation has given $150,000 to Auburn Montgomery in support of the Wellness Center.  Leslie Sanders, Alabama Power's Southern Division Vice President, and Mike Jordan, External Affairs Manager, presented the check to Chancellor John G. Veres III and Carl Whatley, '83, Chairman of Imagine. Invest. Inspire. A Campaign for Auburn University at Montgomery, on Dec. 17.

"Auburn University at Montgomery is a vital part of our community," Sanders said. "The growth the university has experienced recently is a testament to the dedication and partnerships between faculty, administration and students. Alabama Power Foundation’s contribution to AUM will help to advance the mission of the university and, in turn, will yield benefits for our community, region and state."

"We are very grateful to Alabama Power Foundation for their generous gift to the Auburn Montgomery Wellness Center," Veres said. "This gift will support our strategic objectives of student health and a vibrant campus life."

Whatley also was appreciative, saying, "The generosity of Alabama Power in supporting AUM with this outstanding gift is a tribute to their leadership as a corporate citizen and their recognition of the increasing need for community support within our local institutions of higher learning. On behalf of the AUM students, faculty, staff and alumni, I applaud and thank them for this most generous gift."

A quasi-endowment will be established to receive this and other gifts to the Wellness Center for the operations and maintenance of the new facility.

"Alabama Power Foundation is a strong community partner, and I appreciate their commitment to Auburn Montgomery's students and to the future of this university," said Marilyn Ray, Associate Vice Chancellor for Advancement.  "It is an honor to have worked with Ms. Sanders and Mr. Jordan, and I sincerely appreciate their support."
