Vernon Jordan, former adviser to President Bill Clinton, will speak at the next Durr Lecture on Thursday, April 4, at 5 p.m. in Taylor Center 230. The subject of the talk is "Will the South Rise Again? How and When?"
Jordan has long been active in the civil rights movement. After growing up in segregated Atlanta in the 1950s, Jordan attended DePauw University and then went on to complete law school at Howard University. He worked on behalf of civil rights as a lawyer in the 1960s. Jordan has served as a political adviser to President Bill Clinton and also assisted with John Kerry's 2004 campaign. In 2001, Jordan was awarded the Springarn Medal from the NAACP for lifetime achievement. He is currently the senior managing director of Lazard, an investment firm in New York City.
