He’s been a frequent guest on “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson,” “The Today Show,” and “Conan.” This Friday, Aug. 23, TV legend Jim Fowler – former host of the Emmy Award winning “Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom” – will make an appearance at Auburn Montgomery to excite, entertain, and discuss environmental and wildlife issues impacting the world today. The event will be held 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the AUM Athletic Complex. Admission is free and open to the public. Wildlife for the show will be provided by the Montgomery Zoo. A member of the “Wild Kingdom” team since the show’s premiere on Jan. 6, 1963, renowned naturalist Fowler remains an active ambassador to the world’s wildest places and creatures. Armed with keen knowledge of wildlife and a fearless swagger, he was Marlin Perkins’ “Wild Kingdom” co-host until he assumed hosting duties upon Perkins’ retirement. He also hosted “Mutual of Omaha’s Spirit of Adventure.” Today he continues to represent the “Wild Kingdom” for Mutual of Omaha and provides the voice for “Mutual of Omaha’s My Wild Kingdom” iPhone app.
Born in Albany, Ga. in 1930, Fowler earned degrees in zoology and geology from Earlham College in Richmond, Ind. He designed Wild Animal Park, one of two accredited zoos in Georgia, located in Albany’s Parks of Chehaw. He also served as a wildlife consultant for Disney’s “The Lion King” and was presented the Lindbergh Award for his contributions toward balancing technology and nature in 2003.
